Children & Young People Cancer Services
Our children and young people service provides a range of support to families, and to children and young people up to age 25 affected by or bereaved from cancer.
Whether it’s counselling, group sessions, or creative therapies, we offer a safe space to help express feelings, build resilience, and develop ways to cope.
A Service Tailored to You
Our experienced practitioners provide compassionate, tailored support at our centres, in schools, or within local communities.
Caring for Families Too
We understand cancer impacts the whole family. That’s why we provide peer support groups, mindfulness sessions, and complementary therapies. We also work with other organisations to ensure children and families get the best possible support at the right time.
“It was amazing to hear my daughter laugh out loud at the group. There hasn’t been much opportunity due to circumstances in the past year for her to just enjoy herself and have fun.” - Parent
Helping You Take the Next Step
Our goal is to support young people to make sense of their world and move forward with confidence. When they’re ready, we help them transition to the next stage of their journey.
“I came to Ayrshire Cancer Support when my dad died of cancer. I started counselling with Gill, and we made a memory box. It helped me feel less angry and upset about what happened to my dad.” - Child
Learn More About the Children & Young People Service
We offer:
Sessions can take place outdoors in nature if it’s right for you.
Our Children and Young People Support Team consists of Gill, our Children and Young People Service Lead and Sarah our Therapeutic Support Practitioner – who provide one to one and group support.
They are also supported by a number of Sessional Counsellors, Complementary Therapists, Wellbeing Practitioners and volunteers who provide support to children, young people and families that need us.
During times like this, it’s completely normal to have questions. Perhaps you’re wondering what type of support we offer or how sessions are arranged.
If you're unsure about any aspect of our service, please contact us at CYP@ayrshirecs.org, and one of our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
Eilidh's Story
Eilidh was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in 2016 when she was 14. Then when she was 17 in 2019, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
Her thyroid cancer recurred in 2023, and she underwent treatment which she is now recovering well from.
Eilidh is one of the many young people affected by cancer who our services support.
